Earth Day 2020
Coincidentally, I created my new website on the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, April 22nd 2020.
By way of history, Earth Day began on April 22nd, 1970, in the USA. It was a way to raise awareness for protecting our environment: clean air, clean water, and protection of endangered species. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) was also created on the same day. Interestingly, the historic Paris Agreement on climate change was signed on Earth Day 2016.
Care For The Earth
The theme for Earth Day 2020 is Climate Action. It represents the future of humanity and provides life support for all living systems on the planet. Our world needs to remain habitable and functioning.
Despite the introduction of EPA, our planet is continuing to suffer immeasurably. As a result, it has led to biodiversity loss, climate change, increased plastic pollution, wildlife extinction, loss of wildness and forest areas, factory pollution, increased use of pesticides, toxic chemical waste, rising sea levels, oil spills, and wildfires.
The world needs us to protect and restore it, and we need the world as a haven for us to live in now and for future generations.
What can we do, and how can we serve our planet Earth?
This year, due to COVID-19, we cannot make any changes due to isolation, but we can make more effort at home to responsibly reuse, reduce, and recycle. Now is a good time to teach young children how to make a difference to save our world for us and future generations.
Once the pandemic is over and life returns to what we all hope will be a ‘new and more caring for our environment normal’, we can all make significant changes to our world.
Due to Covid-19, Earth Day 2020 has gone digital this year. Please check out the following link to learn more about Earth Day and how we can all make significant changes in our lives for the greater good of our world. Raise Awareness
We must raise our awareness of our finite resources, including electricity, water, food, plastic, packaging, water bottles, and single-use items (plates, cups, cutlery). Travel, explore, and enjoy the wonderful destinations in our world. But do so with consideration for our planet Earth. No littering by disposing of litter thoughtfully into designated bins or taking it home to dispose of. Protect fragile habitats by staying on the designated paths to avoid trampling over fragile native flora. Do not disturb wildlife by artificially feeding, luring, invading their environment, and going too close.
Earth Day is a time for us to all reflect on the current world situation. It is also a time to appreciate what the Earth does for us. It is a time to reflect on ways we can, as individuals, improve and support the Earth for us and future generations.
